Unsteady circulation in shallow, homogeneous lakes
Method is presented for calculating three-dimensional, unsteady, wind-driven circulation in shallow, homogeneous lake on rotating earth; equations of motion are linearized, boundary friction is assumed to act only on bottom; and constant eddy viscosity is assumed; these approximations assume shallow lake where characteristic horizontal dimension is large compared to maximum depth, and where depth is of order of magnitude of Ekman "depth of frictional influence" or less; solution can be applied to lake of arbitrary plan form and bottom topography.
