Novel form design for concrete tunnel
Pasadena vehicular tunnel will burrow 1500 ft under waters of ship channel and tunnel under land for 2236 ft; bottom of excavation is 80 ft below mean elevation of ship channel with quicksand as added hazard; special steel forms were designed which permitted pouring complete shell for tunnel in first form poured; concrete was placed for invert first, then for arch and finally for roadway and side wall.
