Towards optimum solution for underground rapid transit
Criteria are developed and evaluated for optimization of benefit to cost ratio for underground portion of fixed-rail rapid transit system; cost comparisons identify relocation of utilities, underpinning of adjacent structures, construction of temporary retaining structure together with excavation within its confines, construction of finished structures that house system, and duration of period of construction; functional comparisons are evaluated on basis of accessibility to trains and flexibility for future expansion.
