Pipe line bridges solve river crossing problems
Lone Star Gas Co., after having experienced repeated breaks in lines across sand bed rivers, which proved to be costly to repair, aside from crippling service on important main lines, adopted policy of bridging streams whose beds were composed of quicksand; concrete piers were constructed by sinking steel cylinders through sand to rock formation under sand, pumping sand out as cylinders were lowered.
