Work has been proceeding with view to improving water-tightness of structure; first length put in hand was between 11 mi. 30 chains and 11 mi. 70 chains; work involved drilling series of holes through brickwork lining and into surrounding ground; holes were made 3 1/8 in. in diam. through brickwork, being continued as 1 7/8-in. holes outside; grouting was injected into surrounding ground with idea of consolidating it before work took effect on lining itself. (See also Engineering vol. 132, no. 3423, Aug. 21, 1931 p. 237, 3 figs)
