Work has been proceeding with view to improving water-tightness of structure; first length put in hand was between 11 mi. 30 chains and 11 mi. 70 chains; work involved drilling series of holes through brickwork lining and into surrounding ground; holes were made 3 1/8 in. in diam. through brickwork, being continued as 1 7/8-in. holes outside; grouting was injected into surrounding ground with idea of consolidating it before work took effect on lining itself. (see also Ry. Engr., vol. 52, no. 620, Sept. 1931, pp. 329-333, 4 figs)
