Method of laying gas mains through embankments
Method developed in Middletown, Ohio, consisting of forcing culvert completely through embankment, without constructing open trench; ordinarily, 36-in. diam. pipe is minimum that will permit man to excavate inside with any degree of comfort, but smaller diameters have been jacked successfully; local conditions, such as distance to be jacked and stability of soil are leading factors in determining size of jacks to be used.
