Long-span bridges in reinforced concrete
Reference is made to recent paper by T. J. GUERITTE before British Section of Societe des Ingenieurs Civils de France, calling attention to improvement during past 30 years in quality of cement; in construction of Plougastel bridge pneumatic vibration was employed and Freyssinet's measurements indicate that strength at 12 months of 8500 lb. per sq. in. was attained; by reinforcing concrete with steel rods set perpendicular to direction of thrust, compressive strength can be enormously increased.
