Contractor concretes tapered tower in slipforms
New use of slipforming, by casting 380-ft-high hollow, tapered legs of observation tower in one continuous operation; jacks for raising forms climbed on rods embedded in concrete; six 18-ft bolts anchored crane to formwork platform, and two stabilizers inside concrete stairwell transferred lateral forces on crane into shaft walls 22 ft below forms; with this arrangement crane rode up with forms without need to extend crane tower during slipforming operation.
