Extensibility and modulus of rupture of concrete
Loads and strains at which cracks occur in different concrete mixes were determined experimentally, and relationship between these and measured values of load and strain at rupture were investigated; measurements of strain distribution on tensile surfaces of beams were used to detect presence of cracks; it was found that formation of cracks is gradual process; critical stage develops when cracks in mortar itself link up existing bond cracks to form continuous pattern.
