Severn bridge fabrication
High tensile steel towers of prefabricated box construction rise 400 ft to cable saddles; corner plates were welded with Fusarc automatic welding machines; main assembly of tower units used special high-tensile steel bolts; suspended structure of 88 prefabricated deck units are 75 ft wide with 14 ft 9 in. wing members on each side to span 3240 ft between towers plus end approaches of 1000 ft each.
