A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Fabrication of steel-work for bridge and erection of superstructure including towers and cables; operations were carried out over very difficult river with tidal range of about 46 ft and strong currents; model investigations of aerodynamic effects of wind on towers and suspended structure in various stages of construction were made, and their influence on methods of construction is described; suspended structure is form of steel box and was divided into self-floating units which were hoisted into place by erection gear supported from main cables; assembly, launching, moving on water, lifting of units and their connection by welding are described.
