Construction of bridge over Caroni River (Venezuela)
Prestressed concrete bridge has four 96 m long and two 48 m long spans; notable feature of construction technique is launching of 480 m long, 10.3 m wide, 5.4 m high continuous box beam weighing 10,000 ton over auxiliary and permanent piers spaced at 48 m intervals; Teflon slippers were fixed to bottom of beam surface and made to slide on chrome-plated steel plates fixed to pier heads.
