Construction problems in world's largest concrete arch span
Design of principal components of bridge and of falsework; new Gladesville Bridge, New South Wales, carries North Western Expressway serving Sydney over Parramatta River and replaces two-lane multispan swing bridge; structure consists of reinforced concrete arch spanning 1000 ft, supporting prestressed-concrete flexible columns and prestressed concrete beam deck of 100-ft spans; navigation clearance during construction was 80 ft high × 200 ft wide and permanent clearance provided is 120 × 200 ft; arch consists of four ribs 20 ft wide and 14 ft deep at crown.
