Design of Columbia river bridge at Kinnaird, B.C., Canada
Design and construction of five span cantilever plus suspended span type bridge using combination of precast prestressed and cast in place concrete; deck is composed of two 14-ft wide traffic lanes, plus two 5-ft wide sidewalks; bridge structure was designed for earthquake force equal to 2% of dead load of structure; hydraulic model study was carried out to determine what effect piers could have on river bed and what maximum scour would likely occur at one of these piers; pier frames consist of pier shaft or legs which are in form of "V", and box girder which spans 70 ft between tops of these legs and cantilevers 22 ft out from these legs to support 150 ft suspended spans.
