Fighting rail corrosion in 6.21-mile Moffat tunnel
Problem of rail corrosion in Moffat tunnel of Denver and Salt Lake, and continuous welding of new rail laid through this bore into 6.45-mi lengths to overcome most aggravated condition which prevails at rail joints; methods investigated by road to overcome cinder and sulphurous acid condition prevailing in tunnel, to which major part of corrosion problem is attributed.
