Mathematical representation of urban flood plain
Computations of flood damages to urban area are formalized by using mathematical model; flood depth-damage relationship of structure is written as product of unit damage function and individual characteristic damage coefficient; sum of such coefficients for all establishments within small contour interval of flood plain (contour characteristic damage) denotes damage susceptibility of that contour interval; example illustrates application of these concepts to determination of optimal size of upstream single-purpose flood control reservoir.
