Special reference to construction of No. 1 quay, which is 3250 ft long and is 60 ft high; it allows unrestricted movement of 200-ton low loaders, and use of 64-ton capacity mobile cranes; substructure consists of 330 concrete cylinders; fender blocks extending 21 ft below cope level form berthing face, and are provided with fenders, dredger moorings, and ladders; prestressed concrete deck units weigh 12 tons each; quay is completed by 18-in. layer of lean concrete and 6-in. layer of in-situ reinforced concrete.
