Dirt moved fast at low cost on Twin Buttes Dam
About 21 million cu yd of earth is being compacted into 8.2 mi long Twin Buttes Dam, now under construction near San Angelo, Tex; dam will cross channels of 3 streams and will have its maximum height of 131 ft at Middle Concho River bed; it is essentially one zone embankment composed of selected clay, silt, and sand materials; drainage and riprap blankets; construction scheduling; earthmoving equipment and operations; excavation for cutoff trench; concreting for outlet works and spillway.
