Civil engineering works carried out in connection with reorganization of shipyard at Birkenhead, England; special features include tubular strongpoints used for jetty head of tanker cleaning berth, intrusion-grouted concrete with which bases of strongpoints, anchored by prestressed rods to sandstone below, are surrounded, north round-head of drydock anchored to rock by prestressed cables, curved sliding caisson which closes entrance, and to mechanically-operated bilge blocks.
