Transient operation of trickling filter
Trickling filter consists of column filled with loosely packed solid covered with biological slime; fluid (sewage liquor) is passed through column, and fluid and slime exchange mass; mechanism of transport is suggested to be adsorption; it is further postulated that first-order biochemical reaction takes place in slime; by forming material balance, set of partial differential equations, describing transient operation of trickling filter, is formulated and solved.
