Presetting cracks in fluid concrete
Cracks form in fluid concrete as result of settlement and rapid drying; rod cracking forms over obstructions such as reinforcement; in aggregate cracking, particles of coarse aggregate obstruct settlement; rod cracking can be predicted with knowledge of settlement rate, time of settlement, and depth of reinforcement; cracking may be prevented by using higher proportion of coarse aggregate, increasing rod depth, or by air entrainment.
