Greater New Orleans bridge completed
Bridge designed for H20-S16 live loading has 1575 ft main span erected by cantilever method without use of false work construction; consideration of hurricane effects; Willow mattress construction to provide permanent local stabilization of river bed; caisson works described; 17,000 ton superstructure; reduction of dead load by use of high strength steel; grid floor of bridge overlaid with asphalt.
