Alkali-carbonate rock reactions in Michigan
Studies were conducted at Michigan State Highway Dept Testing Laboratory and expansion bars made simultaneously with concrete batches for freeze-thaw evaluations of aggregates; expansion data up to 4 yr age are presented for several of aggregates studied; two of limestones which are mildly reactive exhibit dependence of freeze-thaw durability on alkali content of cement when aggregates are placed in concrete in vacuum saturated condition; durability is improved with low alkali cement.
