Alkali-carbonate rock reaction
Review of eight years of research on alkali-carbonate rock reaction by Div of Building Research, National Research Council, Ottawa, Canada; summary is given of original Kingston case which first revealed excessive expansion in concrete resulting from alkali-carbonate reactivity in dolomitic limestone coarse aggregate; nature of reaction, methods of test and identification, and some hypotheses concerning mechanism of reaction and expansion are described.
