Pipeline economy through design of backfill
Proposed design method is based on assumption that pipe is primarily liner and that basic structural element is soil, which when compacted properly into place can provide structural requirements of passageway; quantitative methods are presented for predicting amount of ring deflection of buried pipe, and pressure concentrations of soil-conduit interface; methods of relieving pressure concentrations by placing compressible blanket adjacent to conduit are discussed.
