Composite piles driven to support bridge approaches for Portland throughway
New driving technique and composite wood concrete piles applied to foundation of approaches to highway bridge designed to carry north and south bound traffic through City of Portland; untreated wood portion of pile is driven below permanent water line; connection of top of wooden pile and concrete pile is achieved by steel driving core, encased by sheet metal shell and wedge ring type of joint.
