Study of damaging effect of fatigue stressing on X4130 steel
Tests made with smooth specimens to determine cumulative damage caused by fatigue at more than one stress; two methods developed for extrapolating to determine point at which fatigue cracking starts, so damaging cycle ratios could be based on life prior to cracking; from S-N curves determined, method of expressing damage was developed which permitted direct addition of damage occurring at different stresses.
