Cures "mud boils" in tunnel with pressure grouting
Pressure grouting used successfully by Illinois Central to overcome unsatisfactory track condition in tunnel in Southern Illinois, in which water and disintegrated shale from subgrade pushed up as mud through ballast section; using special on-track grouting machine, grout was forced into shale subgrade to depth of 6 in. to seal off fissures through which water appeared to be pumped by traffic from lower levels; tunnel conditions; grouting method used in treatment.
