Effect of stresses and deformations on velocity of sound in rock
Study was carried out, using triaxial cell, of mechanical properties of rocks subjected to triaxial stresses with confinement pressures of up to 1000 bars; study shows that speed of sound decreases in rocks subjected to deformation or stress; profound changes occur in structure of rocks subjected to triaxial stresses which are high enough to make them ductile.
