Experimental study of glare from luminous ceiling
Model used was unfurnished room with diffusing luminous ceiling; reflection factors of walls and floor could be altered to give series of room surfaces from all white to all black; procedure used in obtaining subjective judgments from observers; results indicate that ceiling luminance for level of glare equal to mean of criteria just acceptable and just uncomfortable is of order of 150 ft-L with room surfaces of normal reflectances; modifying effect of room surface reflectances is complex, because light surfaces receiving high illumination themselves act as secondary sources of glare.
