Performance of embankments constructed over peat
Performance of three sections of roadway, constructed on peat deposit, are compared to predictions from engineering tests prior to construction; use of sand drains appears to increase stability of fill but has little or no effect on rate of settlement; loading settlement was predicted with reasonable accuracy from consolidation tests; rate of long-term settlement was reduced by use of overloads.
