Note takes into account experience on surface-dressing of roads carrying very heavy and very light traffic and makes recommendations for rates of spread of cut-back bitumen under these widely differing conditions; rates of spread of binder are expressed in terms of number of square yards of surface covered by 1 gal of binder; methods of measuring rate of spread of sprayed cut-back bitumen; recommendations are based on systematic full-scale trials undertaken over period of many years by Department of Scientific and Industrial Research jointly with Ministry of Transport, Road Bitumen Association and British Road Tar Association.
