Precast segmental construction for long-span bridges
Basic bridge system, erection method, and suitable techniques of jointing, stressing, etc, must be integrated for use of precast segments, which make long-span prestressed concrete bridges practicable and economical; special techniques include segmental construction, matched dry joints, composite construction, use of external tendons and lightweight concrete, stage stressing, and varying cross-section; examples of bridges constructed with precast segments are given.
