Load-deformation characteristics of elastomeric bridge bearing pads
Program by Enjay Laboratories and University of Rhode Island was undertaken to investigate effects of accelerated aging and load-bearing properties of butyl rubber and chlorinated butyl rubber at low temperatures; results showed that butyl, chlorobutyl, and neoprene bearing pads were equivalent in compressive and shear load-deformation properties when evaluated at room temperature; butyl and chlorobutyl bearing pads were 2 to 3 times more flexible than neoprene pad.
