Designs for rubble-mound breakwater repair, Kahului Harbor, Maui, Hawaii
Tests conducted on 1 to 68.5-scale models of breakwater sections for repair of damaged breakwaters at Kahului Harbor; proposed designs involved protective cover layers of 35-and 50-ton tribar armor units; design was difficult because of 34-ft high prototype design wave, limited space between concrete monoliths on crowns of existing breakwaters, and limits of navigation channel and harbor basin, and limited lifting capacity and horizontal reach of available construction equipment.
