Altus dam rebuilt as gravity structure with masonry facing used as forms
Former slab and buttress type dam has been replaced by much higher gravity dam with stone masonry facing; stonework was laid up one course at time and was used as form for concrete, thus limiting height of each pour to about 20 in.; narrow width of structure near top resulted in varied procedure in placing mass concrete, which consists of lean mix with cement content reduced about 30% by addition of inert pumicite.
