Remodelling of Esna Barrage, Egypt
Object of barrage and reasons for its reconstruction; irrigation in upper Egypt; existing barrage consists of 120 arch spans, 5 m wide; it was first designed to raise river level during flood; it is proposed to erect new gates, increase their total height, extend masonry floor downstream by 45.8 mi, and to protect bed for further distance with concrete blocks; piers and arches will be lengthened.
