Application of double packing on longwall roadways
In roadway deformation, first stage of pack compression is followed by disintegration of roof, floor and sides; aim of double packing is to remove localized high stressed region from vicinity of roadway into adjacent region in goaf, by building two parallel packs adjacent to roadway; illustrated description of results obtained in several cases. (See also Instn Min Engrs -- Trans v 104 pt 10 July 1945 p 512-36, (discussion) 536-46; Colliery Guardian v 170 n 4395, 4406, Mar 23 1945 p 355-60, (discussion) June 8 p 710-2; n 4033 discussion June 15 p 896-7)
