Fatalities at Indiana coal mines, 1934-38
Statistics for 5-yr period; 188 fatalities resulted from preventable accidents; 173 of these occurred at underground mines and 15 at stripping or open cut operations; from 1934 to 1937, fatality record was progressively worse; details, by specific causes, by types of mines, etc; conclusion is that small wagon mines should be placed under jurisdiction of State Inspection Department and forced to conform to regulations.
