Two types of nativ clay were used practically where they occurred, to make subgrade and sub-base material for project north of Conroe, Tex; extra material hauled in was hydrated lime given special mixing treatment by rotary mixing machine; treatment only 6 in, deep lowered plasticity index of clay 37 by 25 points in less than 36 hr; material was topped by another bin of imported iron ore, and altogether treatment met interstate standards for sub-base construction under 10 in.
