Advancing through soft dyke using pneumatic concrete placer
Pneumatic concrete placer is constructed of steel plate and is roughly shape of retort with 1 1/2-ft tunnel shaped mouth for filling; concrete mix is forced out through bottom discharge pipe, which is reduced to 4-in. diam, by opening 2-in. Glen valve; during tunneling placing of concrete in space 47-ft long by 14-ft wide by 16 to 28-in. high, was accomplished in one 8-hr shift.
