Review of statistics from 1839 to 1937 inclusive shows at least 678 explosions known to have occurred in United States, which results in death of 5429 persons and were caused by open lights or smoking; temperature of burning tobacco; summary of cases presumed to have been caused by smoking; co-workers have responsibility as well as surreptitious smokers.
