From 1900 to 1939, 1005 or approximately 30 per cent of all fatalities in coal mines of Alabama were caused by fires or explosions of gas and dust; list of explosions from 1894 to 1929; explosions classified by type and by origin; explosions are preventable, to extent that precautions are adopted and maintained to eliminate them; use of permissible electrical and other equipment, permissible explosives, and adequate methods of ventilation and rock-dusting is necessary.
