Letter to editor discussing account in issue of Dec 20 1940, of failure of suspension bridge, suggesting that this is rather interesting example of combined structural and aerodynamic instability; numerical investigation confirms that comparatively small increase in torsional rigidity of structure is enough to provide substantially increased margin of stability, so that this would seem to be obvious remedy when bridge comes to be redesigned.
