Committee concluded that failure of this bridge shows that methods of design computations, which had proven satisfactory on structures of other proportions, were not satisfactory for designing structure of proportions used in Tacoma Narrows Bridge; methods used in attempting to reduce oscillations which were found to occur after completion of bridge, were not affective, although they perhaps delayed destruction of bridge.
