Control of acidity of tailings dams and dumps as precursor to stabilization by vegetation
Removal of acidity from surfaces of slimes dams and sand dumps is essential requirement for successful establishment of vegetation; lime-neutralization of surfaces of low or moderate acidity is satisfactory; however, surfaces having lime demand in excess of 3 to 4 tons of lime/acre cannot be treated successfully in this manner; leach technique has made it possible to establish vegetation on sides as well as on tops of acid slimes dams.
