Suspended catenary cable roof of Oklahoma state fair arena
Design and construction of suspended catenary roof and supporting structure are described; roof system suspended on 10-ft grid from elliptical compression ring 68 ft above arena floor; compression ring beam is supported by 41 columns 65 ft high; precast light weight concrete panel 9 ft 7 in. by 9 ft 7 in. is placed within 10-ft grid of cables; each panel has eight steel tubes which support panel on cables; panel is 3 in. deep with 12 in. deep rib around perimeter; eight sump pits will be placed on roof near center of building to drain off rainfall.
