Rex train has laid 36 ft wide concrete paving, 10 1/2 in. thick in one day; manual widening spreaders are equipped with internal vibration for bottom course and surface vibrators for top course; charged by belt-type conveyor, concrete is mixed at central mixing plant, equipped with 8 cu yd mixer and delivered to site by 20 tilting-type truck mixers which charge belting device; part of highway is semiflexible paving with 10-in. thick base consisting of 7 in. lean concrete and 3 in. taror bitumen-bound base material; surfacing is 2 in. layer of 0.7 in. close textured tarmacadam base course, waterproofed and color-contrasted by two-coat application of red 'Schlamme'.
