New procedures for thickness design of concrete pavements
Field surveys of traffic behavior have shown that traffic moves along slab interiors, away from outside pavement edges and corners; this has changed critical stress location from outside corners to transverse joint edges; design charts developed for single and tandem axle loads at critical joint edge location are presented; procedures are given for determining single and tandem axle load distributions needed for design; procedures make use of loadometer data collected by state highway departments; New Mexico loadometer data were used for two design problems.
